The collection consists of 69 prints copied from an album of photographs taken by Rabenhorst. Those identifiable by year date from 1897 through 1899. The photographs document Baton Rouge firemen's parades and decorations in the late 1890s. The parades were held in conjunction with George Washington's birthday and were a major annual event in Baton Rouge. Some of the decorations have been dated by referring to contemporary local newspaper descriptions. The photographs also show Baton Rouge businesses, homes, and public buildings; candid and posed shots of friends, blacks, social activities, LSU cadets, a bicyclist, and a trapeze artist with a traveling show. There are at least two views of St. Louis, Mo., and others of unidentified cities and buildings.

Arthur Taylor Prescott (1863-1942) graduated from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La., in 1884. He became commandant of the student cadet organization at the University of Virginia in 1887, the first president of the Louisiana Industrial Institute at Ruston in 1894, and professor of government at Louisiana State University in 1899. Rabenhorst was born on November 13, 1875, in Baton Rouge. He worked for the United States Postal Service for more than twenty years, and became Chief Clerk of the Baton Rouge Post Office. In 1915, Rabenhorst became associated with the funeral service founded by his father in 1866. At the time of his death, he was president of that business, as well as Rabenhorst Industrial Life Insurance Company. He was active in many civic and social organizations.
